Downloading and Installing the reCAPTCHA Plugin
Here is how to get the plugin:
- Download the plugin “reCAPTCHA in WP comments” (zip file)
- Go to WordPress (wp-admin) > Plugins > Add New
- Click on “Upload” at the top of the screen
- Select the zip file and upload
- Activate the plugin
Setting Up the reCAPTCHA Plugin
To use this plugin, you will need to create a Google reCAPTCHA account and link to your site. See this article for how to do this (jumps to section).
The plugin has an installation wizard that will walk you through how to set it up (2 steps).
Insert your site key and secret key when prompted, then click save.
To edit the settings for the plugin, go to Settings > reCAPTCHA in Comments
Under the reCAPTCHA Customizer, select the type of reCAPTCHA you would like to use (many use the v2 checkbox as pictured below).

Make sure you save any changes you make and then go to your comments area and ensure it is working.
